About Us
Founded in 2004, the New York Person-Centered Resource Center is the first mental health center dedicated to the Person-Centered Approach in New York City, and one of a few Person-Centered organizations within the United States. We strive to promote the Person-Centered Approach. The Person-Centered Approach is the recognized psychological school that includes: the work of American psychologist Carl Rogers, Client-Centered Therapy, Person-Centered and Experiential Approaches, as well as other forms of Humanistic Psychology.
During his lifetime, Carl Rogers was recognized as the most influential psychologist in American history, often considered second only to Sigmund Freud for his influence on psychotherapy internationally. Since Rogers’s death in the late 1980s, the Person-Centered and Experiential approaches have grown throughout the world, particularly in Europe and South America. The power of the Person-Centered approach finds its roots in the humanistic movement of the mid-20th-century and contrasts with the corporatized, medical model that pervades American culture today.
